Next: Introduction to Crops

Seeds are a precursor to Crops. You use a Seed to grow a Crop and one type of Seed can grow many different Crop variants. For example you can have Sunflower Seed and use that Seed to grow a variety of distinct sunflower Crops:

  1. Sunflower Crop in a 1020 tray, for cutting, where the crop name is "Sunflower - 1020 CUT"

  2. Sunflower Crop in a 1020 tray, for selling live, where the crop name is "Sunflower - 1020 LIVE"

  3. Sunflower Crop in a 1010 tray, for selling live, where the crop name is "Sunflower - 1010 LIVE"

How you name your Seeds and Crops is up to you. You can use the language and descriptions that make the most sense to you and your system.

SeedLeaf comes preloaded with over 40 types of Seed that are already paired with their respective Crops. You can edit and delete existing seeds or add new ones.

To EDIT an existing Seed to SeedLeaf:

STEP 1: Navigate to the Seeds Page

STEP 2: Click on the Seed you want to edit

STEP 3: Click the "pencil" icon at the top of the page

STEP 4: Make edits in Pop-up window

STEP 5: Click " Add" to save

To ADD a new Seed to SeedLeaf:

STEP 1: Navigate to the Seeds Page

STEP 2: Click "Add"

STEP 3: Enter Seed name and variety name in the pop-up window

STEP 4: Click "Add" to save

NOTE: If you click the "Add" button after already selecting a Seed (and that Seed is highlighted), you can still add a new seed with out affecting the selected Seed.

To DELETE an existing Seed in SeedLeaf:

STEP 1: Navigate to the Seeds Page

STEP 2: Click on the Seed you want to edit

STEP 3: Click on the trash can at the top of the page

STEP 4: Click OK to confirm

NOTE: you cannot delete a Seed if it is being used in a Crop. To delete a Seed, you need to disassociate it from a Crop before the deletion can take place. Of course, you cannot delete a Crop if it being used in a Product and you cannot delete a Product if it being used in an Order, so deleting a seed can sometimes be complicated - but you can do it!

Seed Lots

Seed Lots are specific batches of a Seed that can be traced back to the supplier. Recording Seed Lots is important for traceability in a production system. SeedLeaf allows you to have records of multiple Seed Lots for each seed and lets you choose the Seed Lot for a specific Crop when you complete the Soak or Sow Task for that Crop.

To Add a Seed Lot:

STEP 1: Navigate to the Seeds page and open the Seed you want to add a seed Lot for

STEP 2: Scroll down to the Lots Section an click "Add Lot"

STEP 3: Enter the Seed Lot #, Seed Supplier, and any Notes for the Lot.

STEP 4: Click "Add" to save your entry

IMPORTANT SEED LOT NOTES:

  • Once a Seed Lot has been entered, its name cannot be edited

  • Once a Seed Lot has been use in a Soak or Sow Task, it cannot be deleted from the system
